Duchess of Delhi

Authentic South Asian Dining in Cardiff Bay

Located at 6 Bute Crescent in the heart of Cardiff Bay, Duchess of Delhi is an award-winning family restaurant serving authentic and beautifully crafted South Asian cuisine.

Blending rich Mughal heritage with modern elegance, the restaurant offers a vibrant yet refined setting overlooking the iconic Wales Millennium Centre. With seating for up to 120 guests, it’s ideal for intimate dinners, family celebrations, and special occasions alike.

A Historic Setting

Set within a striking Grade II listed building dating back to 1893, the restaurant stands in a space that once housed a Sea Captain and later the Glamorgan Coal Company during Cardiff’s coal-exporting era.

As Cardiff Bay evolved from its historic Tiger Bay roots into the thriving waterfront destination it is today, the building has witnessed remarkable change. Duchess of Delhi now adds a new chapter to its story — celebrating South Asian culture and cuisine in one of the Bay’s most historic settings.

Inspired by Mughal Grandeur

The restaurant draws inspiration from the Mughal Empire — a period known for its grand architecture, refined culture, and lavish feasts.

Mughal cuisine represents culinary excellence, combining meats with fruits, nuts, saffron, and aromatic spices. Rich kormas, slow-cooked curries, and opulent dishes once served in royal courts influence today’s menu.

The interior reflects this heritage, with luxurious gold accents, intricate detailing, and design elements inspired by Shah Jahan’s famed Peacock Throne. Even the upstairs Nawab Lounge nods to Mughal traditions, offering a cosy space to relax, socialise, and enjoy board games — a subtle tribute to the era’s love of chess.

Here, the experience is designed to feel both regal and welcoming.
